13 Days China Pheasant and Mammal Photo Tour

Day 1 , Your arrive in Chengdu

Your arrive in Chengdu then transfer to Pingshan (250km  4hrs).  It depends on your arrival time, we may arrange photographing in the afternoon.   

Overnight in Deshengyuan Hotel

Day 2  Full day photographing in the hide.

Bird photographing for Lady Armherst’s pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Temminck’s Tragopan, Sichuan Partridge, Emeishan Liocichla.(from blind)

Other possible species: Elliot’s, Rusty Laughingthrush, Golden Parrotbill, Golden Fulvetta, Streaked-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Red-winged Laughingthrush, Himalayan Blue-tail, etc.

Overnight in Deshengyuan Hotel

Day 3 Pingshan to Wenchuan

After the morning photographing, we will then drive to Wenchuan for overnight.

Day 4 Whole morning photographing the Golden Pheasant, and then 4hrs driving to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve for overnight.    

Day 5,  Searching for the mammals and bird in Tangjiahe NR

The possible mammals here are: Takin, Tibetan Macaque, Chinese Goral, Chinese Serrow *, Reeve's Muntjac, Tufted Dear, Wild Boar, Asian Black Bear *, Golden Snub-nosed Monkey *.  ( * lower chance )

This is a part of the Panda NR, Although the chance is extremely low, but we can finger cross for a wild panda.

Day 6,  Morning photographing the Golden snub-nosed monkey, driving to Chengdu airport for overnight.

Day 7,  Fly from Chengdu to Dulan, Then directly drive to the snow leopard site.

Today we’ll drive into the Dulan Reserve, our most important target here will be the Snow Leopard, according to the statistics by the local NGO, the chance to SEE the snow leopard here are 80% in 4 days. To PHOTOGRAPH them in a close range, we do need some good luck.  Here in this valley, we’ll have local Tibetan Yak family as our host as well as our guide, they of course know every part of this valley and where are the hot spots to witness the snow leopard.  The accommodation can be extremely basic as we live in the ranger station, and there’s no other option available nearby. But it is very meaningful to support the local community by tourism, meanwhile that’s also a sustainable way to protect the local wildlife.

The other mammals we may see here are: Pallas’s cat, Tibetan Fox, Wolf, Lynx, Blue Sheep, Red Deer

Birds you may see here: Beard Vulture, Himalayan Griffon, Rufous-breasted Accentor, Robin Accentor, White-rumpted Snowfinch, White-winged Redstar, Blue-fronted Redstar, White-browed Tit-warbler, etc

Overnight in the Tibetan host family rooms.   

Day 8 to Day 12

Full days in Dulan Reserve.

Overnight in the Tibetan host family rooms.  

Drive back to Xining on day 12, stay in Airport hotel

Day 13,  Departure from Xining airport
